…Recieves 8 new applications for registeation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Thursday announced that Continuous Voter Registration will commence with online pre-registration on Monday, August 18, 2025, via its digital platform.
This is as the Commission also disclosed that eight new associations have submitted applications for registration as political parties, thus bring the number of organisations seeking registration to 151.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, made this disclosure in a statement after the Commission’s regular weekly meeting held on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Olumekun stated that “Physical or in-person registration will begin one week later on Monday, August 25, 2025, and both processes will run concurrently until August 30, 2026.”
The Commission has designated 811 centres for the in-person registration, covering all 774 Local Government Areas, the 37 State offices, and the FCT office. Registration at these centres will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, excluding national public holidays.
He also revealed that
INEC will launch a CVR Live Locator on August 17, 2025, which will enable citizens to find their nearest registration centre using the link: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
“Additionally, a comprehensive 38-page document listing the addresses of all 811 registration centres has been uploaded to INEC’s official website and social media platforms. Inec stated”
The Commission has also assigned dedicated helplines for each state, which will serve as Help Desks throughout the registration period.
The Commission confirmed that the registration procedures remain unchanged from the 2022 CVR exercise, and instructional materials, including video guides, will be made available in the coming days.
On application for registration of new political parties, INEC revealed that since its last update on July 23, 2025, it has received eight additional letters of intent from groups seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 151.
The Commission has already uploaded details of the new requests—including proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership structures—on its official platforms for public scrutiny.
INEC also disclosed that it has created a dedicated portal for party registration and has begun shortlisting groups that meet initial eligibility criteria to proceed to the next stage.
He stated that a full update on shortlisted associations will be released after the conduct of 16 scheduled bye-elections across 12 states on Saturday, August 16, 2025.“The Commission shall continue to keep citizens informed on all its activities.”
