South Africa is the worst hit in Africa in President Donald Trump’s global tariff imposition.

South African products exported to the US will be hit by a 30% tariff from 7 August, President Donald Trump has announced.

Nigeria and some other African countries were slammed 15 % tariff.

The US president is touting tariffs as the answer to trade deficits with other nations.

The high rate imposed on South Africa may not be unconnected with President Trump’s trained relationship with the government of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Other African nations, including Nigeria, Ghana, Lesotho and Zimbabwe have been hit with a 15% tariff, which will also come into effect in seven days.
The decision is a huge blow to South Africa, as the US is its second-biggest trading partner.
