Nigeria’s minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, will be leading other top government officials, security chiefs and diplomats to this month’s inaugural DICAN Diplomatic and Security International Conference 2025 in Abuja.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and security experts are also expected to grace the event that aimed at shaping security in the country.
The conference, organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN), is scheduled for July 23 and will be held at the Rotunda Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It will serve as a key platform to address national, continental, and global security challenges amidst rising geopolitical tensions and widespread disinformation.
The host Minister of Foreign Affairs and Grand Patron of DICAN, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, will deliver the keynote address on the theme:
“Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability.”
The conference will spotlight President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 4Ds foreign policy framework—Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography—and its relevance in tackling emerging global threats and repositioning Nigeria on the international stage.
DICAN President Mr. Idehai Frederick noted that the event reflects the association’s growing commitment to fostering peace and conflict prevention through strategic stakeholder engagement.
The conference will feature a robust panel session chaired by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, and will include participation from key national security figures such as the National Security Adviser, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Professor Sheriff Ghali of the University of Abuja. International journalist Alhassan Bala is also expected to lend his insights.
More than 75 diplomats, along with security chiefs, media professionals, academics, agency heads, undergraduates, and students from selected schools, are expected to attend. VIPs including state governors, past and present lawmakers, and leaders of research institutions have also been invited.
The DICAN conference comes at a critical time as global security dynamics shift, particularly in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and other conflict-prone regions. The gathering aims to solidify Nigeria’s role as a stabilizing force, promoting multilateral cooperation and diplomatic resilience in a fast-changing world.
