The popular Igbudu Market in Warri South Local Government had some sections razed down by an early morning inferno on Thursday 10 destroying properties and goods worth millions of naira.
The Chairman of the local Government Hon. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac was among the first respondent at the scene at about 4 am mobilizing the two council fire fighting vehicles and fire fighting officers and security personnel to bring the fire under control.
The fire, consumed a section of the popular market, with traders reporting the loss of goods worth millions of naira.
The Chairman later went to the scene shortly after the incident leading efforts to assess the damage with a view to finding what can be done in short, medium and long term.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities have promised a thorough investigation to determine the source of the inferno.
This is the second fire incident at Igbudu Market in recent months. A previous outbreak affected the Nupe section of the market, which was later rebuilt by the local government.
Many affected traders have appealed to the government for support.
