Elections: INEC urges security agencies to ensure safety of voters, conducive environment

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has urged security agencies to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the forthcoming elections.

The Commission will be conducting bye-elections in 12 states of the Federation in August 16 2025 and Governorship election in Anambra November 8 2025.

Yakubu who spoke during the Commission’s second quarter Consultative meeting with security agencies on Friday called for strategic coordination to deal with the mounting security concerns, particularly from regions where non-state actors and political violence have disrupted past elections.

He said “I call on the security agencies to make adequate and proactive arrangements for the protection of personnel and assets to be deployed by the Commission and all stakeholders for these activities. “

He urge the security agencies to use the CVR to finetune their preparations for securing the forthcoming elections.

He stressed that “The Recent meetings between INEC and stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the media, have highlighted the urgent need for robust security measures to protect electoral personnel, materials, and voters.”

Professor Yakubu stated that the Commission will continue to work in close partnership with all security agencies and stakeholders to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.
