The Association of Non-Governmental Organisation (ANGO), a coalition of civil society organisations in Gombe State has launched a public hub solely for the purpose of interfacing with the general public.
Known as Savannah Civic Centre, it is the first of its kind in the northeast, designed and tailored to have a multi level governance structure that will enhance effective and optimal productivity for the betterment of the society.
The newly sworn in chairman of ANGO, Dr Bachama Yusuf, stated shortly after taking oath of office that the centre would be a space for the public and every development stakeholder to champion ideas that will promote the overall development of the society.
“Carefully selected professionals from various walks of life including academicians, private sector experts, civil society practitioners, governance and administrative experts, public sector among many others would form critical output from the centre”, said Dr Bachama.
He also explained that the centre will leverage on strategic partnership and collaboration with relevant and related institutions, departments and agencies both within Nigeria and beyond to engage in the spirit of giving back to the society and hinged on the principle of co-creation for the overall development of the society.
During the occasion, the Civil Society Strategic Plan 2025-2030 was also launched by the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Salihu Baba Alkali.
He expressed delight with the document produced by ANGOBwhich he assured that Government will critically look at it with the aim of aligning it with the State’s DEVAGOM action plan.
The strategic plan 2025-2030 is expected to advance the ideals, mission of vision DEVAGOM, launched in 2020 and aimed at carrying everyone along in the State’s development agenda.
In a keynote address, Ambassador Ahmed Shehu, Chairman of the Northeast Civil Society Forum harped on the need for CSO’s to move to the next level in advancing good governance for the betterment of the common man.
The occasion witnessed the presentation of awards to outstanding groups and individuals who made positive impact on communities in Gombe State.
ANGO had in January 2025, successfully conducted its first ever election after many years of its active existence. The Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Professor Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi and Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon Abubakar Luggerewo were represented at the occasion.
The election saw the emergence of the following: Chairman -Bachama Yusuf; Vice Chairman -Idris Maigari Lawanti; Secretary – Yahaya Mohammed; Assistant Secretary -Farida Mohammed Dunama; Director Finance and Admin -Joshua Stephen Kenan; Director PWDs-Ishaku Adamu; Director Legal-Martha Daniel.
Others are; Director Youth Engagement – Ishaku Yadda Garba; Internal Auditor -Alfred Tugan; Director M&E -Ibrahim Manga; Director Information – Jika Wunako kwiyu; Director organising-Danjuma S. Ibrahim; Director Health -Yelwa Abdullahi; Director Education -Halima A. Mahdi and Director Gender-Gloria Usman. Barrister Haruna Yelma admistered the oath office to the officials.
