The Federal Government, Sunday condoled with the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the devastating explosion at the Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz.
The incident which occurred on Saturday, 26th April 2025, claimed the lives of 28 persons and over 800 injured.
The Federal Government in a statement by Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Iran of Nigeria’s support.
The terse statement reads: “The Federal Government of Nigeria extends its deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the devastating explosion at the Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, 26th April 2025, which claimed the lives of 28 persons and over 800 injured.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with Iran during this difficult time and shares in the grief of the families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident. We commend the swift response of emergency services and urge continued efforts to assist the injured and affected communities.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire nation of Iran.”
