20 ministers for CAF tourism conference in Abuja

No fewer than 20 ministers of Tourism are expected to attend the forthcoming 68th UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) meeting holding in Abuja, Nigeria.

The event which is scheduled for June 11-13, 2025, will focus on “Harnessing Technological Solutions (AI) for the Future of African Tourism: Innovations, Growth, and Digital Transformation in Tourism”.

The meeting will bring together key stakeholders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss strategies and innovations for driving tourism in Africa.

The Director, Regional Department for Africa, UN Tourism Commission for Africa CAF, Ms. Elscia Grandcourt also disclosed that no fewer than 300 participants are expected at the meeting.

Grandcourt made the disclosure during a meeting with the country’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

Accompanied by Ms. Zines Zimmal, Programme Officer, UN Tourism Commission for Africa CAF, she said: “ I want to highlight that we can expect above 20 ministers of tourism from the Africa region that will be coming to Nigeria for this event. And additionally, the international organisations that we work with. For example, with the African Union, we always have the Commissioner for Tourism that attends.

“Normally when we organise such an event, we can say that we cap the number of delegates up to between 300 to 350.

“We have the heads of the regional blocks also that are invited. So you can expect more or less this figure that we are talking about with a mix of the different profiles of attendees.

“Because that in addition to the international delegations, that includes also the local participants. And that is why we said that together with the Honourable Minister and her team, we have decided to do this technical workshop, because we really want the locals to gain some benefit out of this gathering.”
