The Transition town Warri initiative aligns with Governor Sherrif Oborevwori MORE Agenda for Delta State .

Honorable Jamani Tommy Ejiro, Delta State Commissioner for Environment made the remark at the Transition town Warri event .

The two days training of of grassroots community stakeholders which took place in Warri Delta State is geared toward providing solutions to communities to promote sustainable living and build resilient communities in line with the sustainable development goals.

The Commissioner who who attended the closing ceremony where four clusters of community led initiatives were developed with a view to solving environmental issues and to reduce reliance on fossil fuels said all the initiatives aligns with the MORE Agenda of Delta State.

He said environmental sustainability is one of the key pillars of the Governor Sherrif meaning development which the transition town Warri initiatives has shown.

Continuing, he said the transition town Warri initiativeis provides opportunities for all to tap and participate while at the same time provide realistic reforms in the society and at the enhanced peace and security in Delta State which are the hallmarks of the MORE Agenda of Governor Sherrif Oborevwori.

Hon Ejiro who lauded the effort of Warri South Local Government Chairman Agbateyinro Weyinmi Isaac in making Warri the cleanest city in Delta State, promised to ensure that the initiative would now be called Transition Delta State with a view to ensuring the initiativeis go to round all local government of the state.

Earlier the Supervisory counsellor for health in the Local Government Ese Gift Deduwa representing the chairman commended the Transition town Warri initiative of turning waste to wealth and promised that the local government will collaborate with it to expand the scope to more communities in the Local government.

Transition Towns are grassroots community-led initiatives that aim to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, promote sustainable living, and build resilient communities in the face of climate change, economic uncertainty, and environmental degradation.

The Transition Town initiative was founded by Rob Hopkins, an environmentalist and author, in 2006 inspired by the concept of “peak oil” (the idea that global oil production would eventually peak and decline) and the need for communities to transition away from fossil fuels and build resilience in the face of climate change and economic uncertainty.

His work has sparked a global movement, with thousands of Transition Towns and initiatives now active in over 50 countries worldwide and Transition town Warri being the first in Africa.
