Delta State Police command, has confirmed the murder of Mr. Olisaemeka Chukwuma staff of the Bursary Department of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka.
Chukwuma, 56, was killed in his home at St. Bridges area of Umueji, Asaba, the Delta state capital, over the weekend.
Members of both Academic and Non Academic Staff have expressed shock at such an incident describing it as callous and barbaric.
It was said that he had returned to Asaba for his usual weekend visit when the incident occurred.
The institution’s bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa, described the incident as “very shocking and unexpected death.”
“He was a very good jolly fellow. He had a good relationship with everyone. You will never hear him raise his voice against anyone. He was always smiling and happy,” she lamented.
The bursar prayed God to give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
Also, a university staff, Mr. Moses Darah , said the deceased “was known for his peaceful and jovial nature.”
“I urge the police authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“As I speak to you now, Asaba is no longer safe, we are confused over the situation,” he said.
Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Delta command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and that the matter was being investigated.
