Cross River governor, Prince Bassey Otu, has been commended for revamping military and paramilitary formations in the state, a development which is aimed at enhancing their aesthetics.
The commendation came during a tour of the various military and paramilitary headquarters by the Cross River House of Assembly committee on works, who were on oversight functions as provided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to ascertain the level and quality of intervention made by the governor within his stay in office.
At the State Police Command headquarters in Calabar, the Commissioner of police, CP Austin Grimah, admitted that the level of infrastructure initiated by the governor and enjoyed by his officers and men in the Command, could be the driving force that has propelled them to do exceedingly well.
“We want to say we are grateful to the state government and it is these show of commitment that continue to ignite us to do more and the result is out there for everybody to see.
“Among other things, the construction and landscaping of the Police headquarters in Calabar is second to none in the country as far as the State Command headquarters are concerned, it is a big plus for us,” Grimah said.
Assuring that the Command would not rest on its oars while ensuring that the state remain calm and peaceful, the CP urged members of the public to go about their legitimate businesses without fear.
At the 13 Brigade headquarters of the Nigeria Army, the Brigade Commander represented by the Garrison Commander, Lt Col. Aliyu Jibo, who received the House of Assembly team, thanked the governor, Prince Bassey Otu, for the various interventions in the first and oldest Army Barrack in the nation.
His words: “On behalf of 13 Brigade Commander of the Nigeria Army, officers, staff and our families, I want to appreciate the governor, Prince Bassey Otu, for these very projects of the parade ground, road network and drainage.”
At RS 6.2 Cross River Sector Command, the deputy Corps Commander (Operations), Eyong Eyong, remarked that the Federal Road Safety remains happy and appreciates what the governor has done for them in the state.
Eyong said: “This is very unprecedented and Road Safety is happy that it is enjoying the sweetness of the State from our sweet governor.
“This place before now, some of us feel ashamed of inviting visitors but now we are so happy and proud, we are doing so much, we are motivated and will do more for the people of Cross River in terms of keeping our roads safe for motorists,” he said.
