A seasoned Gombe based civil society activist, Dr Bachama Yusuf, has emerged as the new chairman of the Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGO) in the State after polling 23 votes during it’s election.
Idris Maigari Lawanti, who garnered 22 votes during the election, is to deputise Bachama in an executive that will steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.
Our correspondent who covered the election reports the electoral committee chairman, Najib Sani, announcing that the other officials elected include, Yahaya Mohammed who is to serve as the Secretary of the Association.
Others include, Farida Mohammed Dunama who was voted as Assistant Secretary, Joshua Stephen Kenan as Director of Finance and Administration with 10 other departmental directors elected also.
According to the Electoral Committee (ELCOM) Chairman, the election had the participation of 23 member organisations out of 36 organisations, representing 64% of the total membership.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Bachama Yusuf, expressed his gratitude to the members for the confidence reposed in him promising to work tirelessly to promote the interests of NGO’s in Gombe State.
He also promised to ensure that the association becomes a strong voice for the marginalised and vulnerable while continuing with its wider consultations within the civil society and other critical stakeholders including MDA’s, development partners, security agencies and communities’ structures.
He said, this is with the view to reinforce strategic collaboration and partnerships so as to consolidate on the gains of the association, foster a more inclusive and accountable civil society in the State.
