Cross River governor, Prince Bassey Otu, has approved the immediate suspension of the village head of Esuk Utan, Chief Okon Archibong Eke, including the entire Esuk Utan village council in Calabar Municipality.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Nsa Gill, also directed the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council, to investigate the allegations levelled against the said traditional ruler and the village council.
It urged the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council, to forward report of its findings as well as recommendations to the office of the Special Adviser to the governor on chieftaincy affairs, within one week of the statement.
The statement also mandated the Obutong clan council to set up a five-man committee to manage the affairs of Esuk Utan village, pending the outcome of the investigation.
It further enjoined members of the public living or operating businesses in the said locality to go about their normal activities and to cease all dealings with the suspended traditional ruler and his council.
