The administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has come under heavy condemnation of the PDP over what the main opposition party in the State described as extravagant award of contracts for projects that serve only the interest of a privileged few.

It cited the recent decision to allocate over N31 billion for the construction of an underpass and several kilometres of road networks in the State capital as a misplaced priority amidst economic challenges and pervasive poverty confronting the people.

In a release signed and made available to our Correspondent in Gombe by the party’s Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, it said the announcement by the State Commissioner for Works, Usman Kallamu Maijama’a, came at a critical time when the people are confronted with severe economic challenges, including pervasive poverty and a struggling education system and healthcare sector crisis.

It said, while the Government asserts that this infrastructure project is essential for enhancing accessibility and managing future traffic demands, “we must question
whether this truly aligns with the urgent needs of our citizens”.

According to the Peoples Democratic Party, “Our communities are striving to secure basic necessities, and instead of addressing these pressing issues, the Government seems to prioritize projects that serve the interests of a privileged few. Moreover, the Government’s approach raises significant concerns”.

It alleged that Civil servants have been misled with hollow promises of minimum wage increase that failed to keep pace with the rising cost of living adding that indigenous contractors are being sidelined, while a select group of individuals, acting as fronts for Government officials, are favored for contracts.

“Tragically, the administration has transformed our diligent youth into political pawns, undermining their potential contributions to society. The civil service has been compromised by favoritism and a blatant disregard for established regulations, leading to a profound erosion of public trust”, the main opposition party alleged.

The PDP firmly condemned what it said was a troubling departure from effective governance stressing that the focus on extravagant infrastructure projects must not overshadow the urgent need to alleviate poverty, restore education system, and revitalize healthcare services.

“We call on the Gombe State Government to urgently reassess its priorities and align its initiatives with the genuine needs of the people.

“The PDP is dedicated to advocating for policies that reflect the will and welfare of Gombe citizens, especially as the days of this administration are numbered. The actions of this administration are not only incomprehensible but also deeply alarming in their implications for our Society”, it warned.

It called on the citizens to remain vigilant and demand accountability from the Inuwa led administration warning that it is time for the Government to prioritizes the needs of the people over self-serving projects that are designed to siphon public funds. “Together, let us advocate for a brighter, more equitable future for Gombe State”, the PDP demanded.

End.
