The Commander of the 22 Armored Brigade, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Major General Oluwafemi Williams, has reiterated the commitment of the brigade to maintaining peace and addressing contemporary security challenges in Kwara State and its environs.
Speaking at the 2024 Nigerian Army Social Activity held at the brigade’s headquarters in Ilorin on Friday, Williams highlighted the brigade’s active role in curtailing terrorism, insurgency, kidnapping, and farmer-herder conflicts in Kwara state and beyond.
He said, “The brigade has been duly involved in curtailing civil unrests, thereby creating a peaceful environment in Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.
“The brigade’s key role in clearing out the Islamic State of West African Province terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers from previously occupied areas.
“The brigade had conducted successful operations in Nanu Forest in Kaiama Local Government Area, Babanla Forest in Ifelodun Local Government Area, and Gbugbu Forest in Edu Local Government Area. These efforts led to significant arrests of criminal elements”, Williams revealed.
“Additionally, the brigade maintained offensive operations in the Kainji Lake National Park, Niger State, while resolving farmer-herder conflicts in areas such as Obbo-Ile, Obbo Ayegunle, and Eruku in Kwara South.
“Our achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our officers and soldiers. We remain committed to eradicating criminal activities and ensuring lasting peace in our area of responsibility,” he added.
The commander attributed the brigade’s success to the dedication and commitment of its personnel, as well as the support received from the people and government of Kwara State.
He also acknowledged the contributions of other security agencies in sustaining the peace currently enjoyed in the state and surrounding areas.
The commander expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, for approving and successfully executing several developmental projects in 2024.
The event which featured traditional displays by different ethnic communities brought together military personnel, government officials and the local communities as well as other dignitaries, celebrating the accomplishments of the 22 Armored Brigade in ensuring safety and stability in Kwara State.
