Victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State who receive relief material support from Kishimi Shelter and Care Foundation have commended the timely intervention from the Gombe based NGO.

Though visibly devastated by the effects of the flooding which claimed lives and property worth billions of naira in Maiduguri city, the victims were however delighted by what they termed as swift intervention by Kishimi which is intended to enhance their livelihood.

Mr Mu’azu Audi, the Programme Manager of KSCF in Maiduguri, speaking for the recipients, said “the relief materials and cash assistance received from different organization, individuals and families have brought immense relief and hope to our affected people”.

The distribution exercise took place at Moduganari Primary School, Maiduguri and Mr Mu’azu added that, “The flood, which devastated our community left many without shelter, food, or basic necessities”.

He told the Executive Director of the Gombe based NGO that their prompt response and contribution have helped alleviate the suffering and restored dignity of those that were affected.

He called for more societal support to help the victims build resilience and have hope for recovery. “I will also encourage the CSO’s to also collaborate with Government because there is serious need. People have been badly affected as they lost so many properties”, Mu’azu appealed.

Executive Director of Kishimi Shelter and Care Foundation, Mr. Grace Samuel, while empathising with the victims, encouraged them to see the disaster as an act of nature.

“What has happened is a natural disaster which nobody had control over. I advise that they should be resilient, pick up the pieces of their lives and move on”, she encouraged them.

Some other recipients while expressing their gratitude for the swift response said the support will go a long way in supporting their needs. They were thereafter enlightened on the need for hygienic practices and psychosocial support to ease their mental health to overcome the disaster.

Our Correspondent gathered that about N735,000 cash was distributed to 117 households including other items such as clothes, shoes, bags, toys, jerry cans among many others. It was also learnt that Kishimi mobilized and got the support from friends and well wishers within Gombe State and outside.
