The Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, is dead.

 

NewsSpecng gathered that the traditional Ruler died on Wednesday 11, September 2024.

 

The 87-year-old Oba Aromolaran was admitted to Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State for an undisclosed ailment where he passed away.

The late ruler reigned for 42 years before his demise on Wednesday.

His death has already caused anxiety in Ilesa as security operatives, including operatives of the Department of State Service and the Nigerian Police, took over the entrance of the palace.

Confirming the demise of the late king, the community through the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Olayinka Fasuyi on Thursday afternoon said the death of Oba Aromolaran is an era.

 

According to a statement made available to newsmen stated that “An era comes to an abrupt end! A monumental history closes.

 

“The torch bearer of Oduduwa relocates. The symbol of Obokun Adimula transits. Ijesaland celebrates the life of her idol, our Imperial Majesty. We eulogise the reign of our Owa Obokun Adimula and applaud the legacy of our paramount ruler. The 42 years of monumental reign come to a glorious end. Ijesa women and men, young and old, at home and in diaspora in unison say adieu to our Baba, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran 11, CFR, LL.D; the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland..

 

 

Oba Aromolaran is the first Nigerian Oba to hold a PhD and his first book, Economics for West Africa was published in 1966 in collaboration with his friends, Alabi Ogun and Areoye Oyebola.
