As part of activities to commemorate the 75th birthday celebration of the Catholic Archbishop of Calabar, Most Rev. Joseph Ekuwem, the Archdiocese has announced a group wedding proposed for 35 couples.
A statement by the Chairman and Secretary of the central planning committee, Rev Fr. Charles Etim and Titus Enya including the chairman, publicity/protocol, Charles Ofulue, indicates that interested couples would be expected to submit their names to the deans through their parish priest or chaplain for compilation.
The statement listed certain conditions that must be fulfilled by intending couples, among which are, “letter of recommendation from the parish priest or chaplain,” and “the candidates must be confirmed.”
It informed that “the deadline is September 30, 2024 or an earlier date if 35 couples are registered before the date,” recommending also that “the couple must be fresh, that is, yet to have a child in their union.”
According to the statement which was addressed to all deaneries, parishes, chaplaincies in the Archdiocese of Calabar, “a common reception will be organised for all the 35 couples along with other incentives that will be funded by the sponsors.”
