The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo,  SAN, has called on those planning protests to reconsider and allow for reconciliation.

Ajulo  emphasised the importance of maintaining public peace.

Dr. Ajulo in a statement he personally signed acknowledged the right of every citizen to engage in peaceful protest but cautioned against potential risks posed by individuals who might hijack such movements to perpetrate violence and disrupt public order.

He therefore urged protest organisers to consider alternative approaches that would prevent their causes from being compromised by those with malicious intent.

He said:  “As someone who has actively participated in protests for over 30 years, I understand the power and importance of peaceful demonstrations. “However, the current climate is not conducive to such activities without risking the safety and security of our communities.

“While the right to protest is fundamental, it is equally crucial to ensure that these actions do not provide a platform for evildoers to inflict harm or jeopardize public peace,” he added.

Dr. Ajulo encouraged finding common ground with the government, suggesting dialogue and reconciliation as more effective means of addressing grievances. “I appeal to all parties involved to engage in constructive discussions and seek resolutions that promote unity and understanding. The government is open to dialogue and committed to addressing the concerns of its citizens.”

He assured the public of his commitment to safeguarding their rights while maintaining order and stability. “We must work together to find solutions that benefit all and avoid actions that could lead to chaos and unrest. Let us prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities by embracing reconciliation and dialogue.”

In the same vein, the AG stated that after quality consultation with stakeholders and leadership of Security and civil society groups in the State, his office has created a new office, The Citizen Rights and Advisory Bureau (CRAB) which will be responsible for promoting and protecting the rights of citizens, as well as providing guidance and advice on various matters affecting their lives.

“This is to provide a platform for citizens to seek guidance and redress, the bureau will play a vital role in fostering a more inclusive, responsive, and accountable government.

I therefore urge the people of the State, particularly those with grievances against the government, corporate bodies, and individuals, to approach his office or use these contact lines:

Glo: 0915 575 9305

Mtn: 0707 351 8535 to register their concerns.

All complaints will get to the office of the listening and compassionate Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, which will ultimately be passed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.” The AG concluded.
