Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Tuesday had a parley with the Southeast Governors Forum in Enugu.
Obasanjo was at the meeting of the Governors at the Enugu Government House in the company of the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Dr. Emeka Anyaoku and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.
The visit, NewsSpecng gathered was not unconnected with the push for the release of of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu from incarceration.
Obasanjo, who came to the meeting around 11am, left around 1pm.
He however refused to entertain questions from newsmen while security agents refused journalists from taking his photograph.
However, it was gathered that Obasanjo was in the meeting to parley with the Governors on the possible release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu from incarceration.
The chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum and Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, who read a communique of the meeting to reporters, thanked the former President as well as Dr. Anyaoku and Igwe Achebe for their solidarity visit.
Uzodimma informed the forum deliberated and resolved to interface with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He added that the Governors also resolved in the meeting to visit President Bola Tinubu to discuss all pressing issues concerning the Southeast region.
“The Forum received a delegation of the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, who came on a solidarity visit to this Forum.
“The Forum deliberated on the reviewed report of the Southeast security and economic summit held in Owerri Imo State on the 28 September, 2023 and agreed to implement the aspect of the report pertaining to security and economic integration of the Southeast region and affirmed its desire to out actionable plan on the key issues agreed.
“The Forum resolved to visit Mr. President to discuss all pressing issues concerning the Southeast region.
“The Forum also deliberated and resolved to interface with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.
While commiserating with Ebonyi, Abia, Imo and the Southeast region, the Governors also condoled with the entire family of Ogbonnaya Onu on the demise of former Governor of old Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
The forum named former Senate President Pius Anyim as the chairman of the burial committee, while former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi would serve as secretary.
All the Southeast Governors physically attended the meeting.
