Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has incurred the wrath of the Tangale people of Billiri LGA living overseas over his continuous denial of their recognised 16th Mai Tangle, Dr. Musa Idris Mayamba.

The Tangale intellectuals living in different parts of the world under the aegis of the Tangale Community Overseas (TCO) with Secretariat at 16 Orion Way, Coto De Caza, CA 92679, United States. Tel: +1 (949) 577-2751, vowed to continue to remind everyone that the Tangale stool is still vacant pending the announcement by the Governor or the Courts.

In an open letter to Tangale sons and daughters over recent happenings in Billiri LGA, signed by it’s General Secretary, Lamela Umaru Lakorok and Andele Yerima Tadi, Chairman, Think Tank Committee of TCO, it insisted that “Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba, was selected by the Tangale kingmakers as our paramount traditional ruler. We are not distracted by noisemakers, nor by their schemes to append illegality in Tangale land”.

TCO also accused Governor Inuwa Yahaya of denying Billiri LGA of it’s allocated funds from the Federal Government saying, “the countdown for the term of Governor Yahaya in office has already started – he will soon be gone.

“What awaits him soon after his tenure is an investigation for corruption. We will take him before the anti-corruption agencies to explain how he spent the financial allocations of Billiri LGA”, the group stated.

Majority of the indigenous people of Tangale, Billiri LGA, have been having a sour relationship with the Governor immediately he announced Malam Danladi Sanusi Maishanu as the new Mai Tangle after the demise of Late Abdu Buba Maisheru over three years ago.

Some prominent Tangale indigenes reportedly resigned their positions from Inuwa’s Government because of the Governor’s insistence.

The rejection of Danladi Sanusi Maishanu, who did not win majority votes during the selection process by the king makers, heightened and generated into a crisis that claimed some lives.

Since that time, TCO and many other groups have been at the top of public condemnation of the Governor’s injustice insisting that Inuwa Yahaya should reverse his decision to the popular wish of the people by enthroning Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba.

This time around, TCO in the open letter alleged that on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, some unpatriotic and greedy individuals of Tangale extract in connivance with some settlers in the land converged on Poshiya, the stool of Tangale chiefdom, and held a meeting with the stooge installed by Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

It said, Pictures and videos of those in attendance and their speeches, which circulated widely on social media clearly displayed the faces of sycophants.

Parts of TCO’s statement reads: “From the speech of Governor Yahaya’s stooge, it is clear the Governor was aware of their meeting and is expecting them to soon pay him a courtesy visit to Gombe. We learnt that they are set to meet again on June 2, 2024 to finalize on the said visit to Gov Yahaya.

“The last meeting generated tension in Tangale land. From what is on the ground, we are certain, any step in undertaking this visit will lead to a crisis in Tangale land.

“We therefore draw the attention of the Gombe State Commissioner of Police and the Gombe State Director of the State Security Service (SSS) to take note and put a stop to this unholy visit.

“By this, we also place on notice the National Security Adviser (NSA) Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, and all concerned bodies in Nigeria that whatever crisis happens in Tangale land related to the implementation of decisions taken at this meeting, or anything related to Mai Tangle saga, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state should be held responsible”, it warned.

It then commended true Tangale elders and individuals who shunned the invitation to the meeting saying, “we are proud of you for not compromising your position. We know you by name, and we are certain history will not forget you.

“We also commend all Tangale sons and daughters at home for your resilience and steadfastness in shunning the stooge planted in the Tangale palace.

“He has already known his position that he is not the ruler of the Tangale people – he knows that Governor Yahaya cannot make him one”, TCO stressed.
