The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has commenced a three months training of 20 youths in Gombe State aimed at creating self employment opportunities for the them.
The training which is under NDE’s Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS), brought the 20 selected youths from the eleven Local Government Areas of the State to be trained on three employability skills so as to enable them make money for themselves.
Representing the Director General of the NDE, Malam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo at the commencement of the training, the Gombe State Acting Coordinator of NDE, Mrs. Mawa Lamu Asma’u, said the youths will be trained on fixing of Plaster of Paris (POP), Hard Landscaping (Tiles) and Soft Landscaping (growing of flower nurseries).
The DG urged the selected youths to take the training very serious so as to build a better future for themselves since white collar jobs are scarce stressing that even when one has a degree, NCE, Diploma or whatever certificate jobs are not easy to come by.
While congratulating the youths for having the opportunity to learn the skills, the DG appreciated the efforts of the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mrs Nkiruka Onyejeocha, in creating opportunities for the Nigerian youths to be self reliant.
The Acting Coordinator of the NDE in Gombe State, explained to our Correspondent that each trainee is entitled to a stipend of N10,000 each month and will also be discharged with soft loans and working kits for their various skills after the three months training.
One of the participants of the training, Abdulrahman Abdullahi who spoke to our Correspondent expressed his joy for being among the beneficiaries of the programme.
He thanked the Federal Government and organisers of the training and promised to put in his best during and after the training since it is aimed at helping them to be self reliant.
“Times are obviously hard because even with your degree or whatever certificate, jobs are scarce now. This training will go a long way in helping us to take care of ourselves, families and parents”, he stated.
