want perpetrators prosecuted
Nigerians in South Africaq have protested the killing of a fellow citizen, Jeff Ebuka who was allegedly killed by the South African Police officials.
The National Leadership of the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) called for the swift arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators the heinous act.
The incident happened, Friday 17 May in Danielskuil, Northern Cape, South Africa.
The President of NICASA, Frank Onyekwelu insisted that Justice must be served, and those responsible must be held to account for their actions.
Onyekwelu said it was an avoidable death.
He said, “The National Leadership of the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) condemns in the strongest terms the killing of a Nigerian citizen in Danielskuil, Northern Cape.
” The tragic death of Mr Ebuka(Jeff) in the hands of the South African Police officials is deeply distressing and unacceptable. This death could have been avoided.
“We express our profound disappointment in the manner this avoidable action by men of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and demand thorough investigation into this gruesome murder.
” South Africa as a democratic state, it is imperative that all, regardless of their nationality, color or creed be treated with dignity and afforded the full protection of the law, especially from law enforcement officers. Section 11 of the constitution protects the right to life of everyone living in the Republic.”
Onyekwelu said an eye witness report exonerated the late Ebuka of any wrong doing.
He stated, “For clarity purpose, an eye witness who is a South African captured the event during an interview with Kalahari Memorandum Digital.
“From her statement, it is obvious that the deceased was targeted.”
He therefore added, “We call for the swift arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act. Justice must be served, and those accountable must be held to account for their actions. ”
NICASA president also urged members of the Nigerian community in the Nelson Mandela country to ” Remain peaceful and law-abiding, even in the face of this tragic act while we await full investigation into the incident.”
He also added, “NICASA reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace and lawfulness within the Nigerian community in South Africa. While we acknowledge the duties of the SAPS to enforce the law, we vehemently oppose any actions that result in the loss of innocent lives.”
To the family of the deceased, he extended the deepest condolences of the group to the family and relatives of Mr Ebuka, saying “No family should have to endure such a senseless loss. The National Leadership of NICASA stands in solidarity with the Nigerian community and will continue to advocate for the welfare and protection of Nigerian citizens in South Africa.”
