A former deputy governor of Ondo state, Agboola Ajayi, has emerged candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November governorship poll, NewsSpecng learnt. Agboola served as Deputy Governor between 2017 and 2021.

He polled 264 votes at the party primary.to defeat six other aspirants.
A total of 621 of the 627 delegates were elected to participate at the primary were accredited to vote.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Kolade Akinjo, came second by securing 157 votes.
Otunba Bamidele Akingboye polled 24 votes, Adeolu Akinwumi garnered 64 votes, Arebuwa Bosun got two votes, Ebiseni Olusola got 99 votes while John Mafo secured nine votes.
Two votes were declared invalid.
Chairman of the seven-man Primary Election Committee in Ondo State and Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, declared Agboola winner of the primary.

He expressed optimism that the party would win the November governorship election.
Ewhrudjakpo said, “Ajayi Alfred is hereby declared winner of this primary and returned as candidate of the PDP.
“I present to you the next Governor of Ondo State.
“The problem of our party is how to get the power back from the APC that had been taken power from us for the past eight years.
“We expect a very transparent, free, fair, credible and rancor free election and I have gotten commitment of all the aspirants that they would abide by the outcome and we are going to make it transparent as possible.
“You may be aware of my record that I was the one conducted the primaries in Osun state and we won in Osun and I’m here again to conduct the Ondo state and by the grace of God, we are going to win because the sun of the last year is still the same of this year, so the rain will fall and the farmers would have good harvest.”
Agboola, in his response, said the victory was for all members of the party.
He said the primary was credible and transparent.
The former Deputy Governor hailed the national leadership of the PDP for ensuring a credible primary.
He promised to lead the party to victory at the polls.
