No fewer than four members of the Borno State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have been suspended for trading off food palliatives approved for vulnerable families.
The palliatives were provided by governor of the state, Prof. Babagana Zulum.
Those suspended are a state executive member, the ward chairman of Old Maiduguri, the ward secretary of Old Maiduguri, and a ward executive member,
The suspended members, Ali Kaka, Adam Ajiya, Mala Mohammed, and Usman Bukar, as at the time of filing this report on Tuesday were in the custody of the Nigerian police CID.
They are accused of selling the palliative token, which allows families to benefit from the governor’s intervention, for personal gain.
According to a statement released by Borno’s APC secretary, the four executive members should remain suspended pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee investigation.
The statement quoted the party secretary, Barr. Mustapha Loskuri, as saying, “The State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Borno State Chapter, in its meeting held on March 10, 2024, unanimously suspended a state exco member and three others as executive members of the party for gross misconduct.”
Loskuri said: “This decision has been made in accordance with the provisions of Article 21 of the party’s Constitution.”
