The Lawmaker representing Yakurr I State Constituency in the Cross River House of Assembly, Hon. Cyril James Omini, has disbursed ₦15 million to 150 women in his constituency, to aid their businesses.
Disbursing the cash at the Yakurr Council Guest House, Ugep, venue of the ceremony, Omini said the empowerment of women in his constituency is to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day and to demonstrate his resolve to change the socio-economic status of women in the present time.
Omini who doubles as Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, stressed the need to create a conducive environment for women to succeed in their chosen field of endeavour, in line with the ‘People First’ mantra of the governor, Prince Bassey Otu, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He maintained that empowering women was vital in addressing the present social, economic and political challenges, while making them to be self-reliant.
Continuing, Omini informed that the choice of empowering 150 women and other members of his constituency was in line with his campaign promises, to alleviate the women and youths from poverty and hardship.
The lawmaker who charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the gesture also hailed them for their unalloyed support.
He assured them of his commitment and readiness to providing meaningful and effective representation anytime and anywhere.
Recall that Omini had prior to his election and assumption of office some months ago, supported families with cash to aid the education of their wards including the donation of cars, motorcycles, and upsetting hospital bills for the sick, aged and needy.
Some beneficiaries of the empowerment program including Rosemary Lawrence Eko, Mrs. Jenny Iwara Utre, and Mrs. Nkiru Pius Egbe, expressed gratitude for Omini’s generous actions, and unwavering efforts to empower them, admitting that it would go a long way to enhance their standard of living.
They thanked him for prioritizing the welfare of his people in line with the Governor Otu’s ‘People First’ Mantra and assured the lawmaker of their unflinching support both now and in the future.
Key stakeholders in the constituency including a former Presidential Aide, Okoi Obono-Obla, former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Prof. John Inyang, as well as Mr. Essien Emmanuel Okoi, and Hon. Eteng Obol, also joined in appreciating the lawmaker for his patriotism and unwavering dedication to service.
They argued that such humanitarian efforts, qualitative leadership and innovative representation, have never been experienced in the area, since 1999, urging Omini to maintain the tempo.
