Modernization: FG Calls for Establishment of Model Schools Across the Country

The Federal Government has called for the establishment of model schools across the country to encourage the knowledge of science and technology that would position Nigeria for modernization.

The call was made on Thursday by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji at the Annual Science Technology Engineering Art Math (STEAM) Fair hosted by the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC), Abuja

Nnaji who was represented by the Director and Head of Department of Chemical Sciences, Technology and Development in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mfon Bassey, said there is the need to have model schools in all parts of the country to boost the knowledge of young ones and build the road to the nation’s technological advancement.

The Minister while commending NTIC for being a pacesetter in the development of science and technology, said: “We pray that you would grow better and better and spread to other geopolitical zones of the country so that we begin to have model institutions that will boost the knowledge of our young ones across the country.”

He noted that various policies are underway to boost development in nanotechnology and other scientific and technological development in the country.

In his speech, the Managing Director of NTIC, Mr. Fevzullah Bilgin, explained that the STEAM Fair is a way to inspire and encourage students to pursue science-oriented concepts from primary to secondary levels.

He emphasized the importance of creativity and innovation in keeping up with the fast-changing technological age.

Bilgin further explained that NTIC STEAM Fair is an annual programme. ‘The S.T.E.A.M. Fair’ is a manifestation of our commitment to providing a platform for students to showcase their talents and explore their interests in scientific and artistic fields’.

2024 STEAM FAIR showcased various student projects, artistic displays, interactive sessions, medical check-ups, and educational advancement opportunities.

There were also interesting exhibition stands, including a water fountain, Aquaponi culture, Clinometer, Disposable Spoon Flower Vase, Fireworks in a Jar, Car prototypes, amongst others.

The fair was spiced up by a raffle draw that offered different gift items to students with the lucky number. For all the participants it was a great time for exploration, discovery, and celebration.

The fair was attended by over 1000 students from over 50 schools in Abuja, as well as distinguished dignitaries from Federal Ministry for Sports Development, Federal Ministry for Education, Ministry of Science and Technology and Secretary to Education and National Mathematical Center; parents, school administrators, and representatives in the technology and art industry were at the fair.
