Gombe: GSU gets four new professors

Four new Professors are among the twenty two newly promoted academic staff of the Gombe State University (GSU) recently approved by the institution’s Governing Council.

Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Senator Joshua Lidani, made this known to Journalists during a press briefing, Thursday morning adding that the institution now has a total of twenty four (24) Professors.

He stated also that the Governing Council equally approved the promotion of eighteen (18) staff to the rank of Readers. All the promotions were with effect from 1st October, 2022.

According to him, the Council had, during it’s 51st meeting, approved the promotions which also included eighty five (85) other academic staff to various ranks in the University system with effect from 1st October, 2023.

He said the Council during the meeting, recommended the promotions of forty one (41) other senior academic staff to various ranks subject to positive external assessments.

In the non teaching staff category, Senator Lidani said, fifty seven (57) of them were promoted to various positions in their respective cadre with effect from 1st October, 2023.

Senator Lidani also announced that the State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the establishment of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the Dukku Campus of the University in Dukku Local Governments Area of the State.

The Dukku Campus of the University, was earlier designed as School of Nursing and Midwifery by previous State administration but has now been completed by the Inuwa led Government and is ready for use by the Gombe State University. Admission will be done in due course, he added.

The University, which has almost exhausted it’s land in Gombe, the State capital, is in the process of acquiring a land in near by Kwami Local Government Area for future development of the University, Senator Lidani revealed.
