Cross River Commissioner for Health, Dr Egbe Ayuk, has announced the outbreak of Lassa Fever in Ejah Community of Osupong Ward 1, Obubra local government area of Cross River State.
In a release made available to journalists in the state, Ayuk said, “investigation has been concluded today, and details of the deceased case – a resident of Obubra, got from Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has been confirmed positive for Lassa.
“We have consequently activated the CRS Emergency Operation Center and the State Rapid Response Team will be going to Obubra,” Ayuk stated.
According to him, the team would ensure contact tracing and line listing including the decontamination of affected premises.
The Commissioner also said of the team that “it would be expected to create wareness and risk communication as well as the mobilization of Lassa fever commodities, consumables and personal protective equipment to the General Hospital in Obubra and other locations.”
