Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abbas, has ordered the deployment of police special forces to shopping and resort centres across the state during the yuletide.
Abbas who spoke with newsmen in Asaba urged the personnel to provide sufficient security before, during, and after the Yuletide celebration.
Directing the personnel to focus on special crime awareness and prevention operations, as well as targeting crimes common over the festive season, he said Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders, to deploy their men to guarantee the safety of all citizens as well as the success of all the planned celebration-related events.
The state police boss assured that the command is actively ready for the festivities, while anyone with criminal intent will be squeezed out of the state.
“The command urges members of the public to remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times to avoid being easy prey for crooks who may want to take advantage of this period, which is typically marked by social gatherings and festivities”, he said.
He, however, advised members of the public to be law-abiding, and also nurture active participation in community policing, so that they can be instrumental to the police in the fight against crime during the Festive Season and beyond.
