The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) (RS. 7.17) Kuje Area Command, FCT, has warned motorists against reckless driving, expired tyres, over loading of vehicles and use of mobile phones while driving to help reduce accidents on roads..

The Kuje Unit Commander, ACC Jem Ijigah, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after a special motorpark mega rally to sensitise stakeholders on safety tips on highways.

NAN reports that the Theme of the Mega Rally is titled: “A crash free society is possible, just do the right thing, obey all traffic rules and regulations”

Ijigah said the call had became necessary to cautioned motorists against reckless driving and to avoid distractions such as use of mobile phones while driving.

According to her, cases of overspeeding, intake of alcohol and use of expired tyres are now the highest killers of motorists on highways which has to be properly addressed to help safeguard lives.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this mega rally with the theme “A crash free society is possible, just do the right thing, obey all traffic rules and regulations.

“It is without doubt that the mission of FRSC is to reduce the rate of Road Traffic Crash to the barest minimum, which is in line with our Corps Strategic Goals of 2023 to accomplish a 5% reduction in Road Traffic Crash death and injuries.

“Let me stress that most causative factors of Road Traffic Crashes, amongst other factors is mostly human behaviour on the road, drivers are in the perpetual habit of not complying to road traffic rules and regulations.

“The rally however is an event organized as part of the strategy to achieve this feat and iIt has been observed with dismay that within Kuje environs, critical offences such as overloading of passengers and Speed limit violation.

“Driving with worn out tyres, use of phone while driving, seat belt violation and route violation
are common offences perpetrated by drivers,” she said,” the UC said.

However, she called on motorists to be always maintain stipulated speed limit to avoid accidents, adding that, “we enjoin them to avoid night traveling to reduce the rate of crashes on the roads”..

Besides, The UC appealed to members of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and other private car and motorcycle owners to partner with the FRSC to help reduce accidents on roads.

“Other offences such as parking/picking at unauthorized areas, driving without the necessary vehicle documents such as drivers license and vehicle licenses are not left out.

“To this end, FRSC Kuje Unit Command will not relent in its effort in curbing this menace through intensifying public Education and enforcement through arrest of road traffic violators.

“Cras free society is possible. Road safety is a ollective responsibility. To this end, I urge all stakeholders, particularly our sister agencies to contribute their quota towards achieving this goal,” she said.

Side attraction include a play drama by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, against the evils inherent in reckless driving, Overloading, alcohol intake and use of mobile phones while driving.
