Aondonga Tiza, a teacher has been ordered to be remanded in a correctional facility by the Makurdi Magistrates’ Court in Benue.
Tiza is accused of defiling an eight-year-old girl.
The Teacher has also been charged with criminal intimidation and defilement by the police.
Magistrate Adah Jack did not take Tiza’s plea due to jurisdictional issues and ordered his remand at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigations.
The prosecution counsel, Insp James Ewache, stated that the case was reported on July 8 by a relative of the victim’s mother, and investigations are ongoing.
He said that the complainant is the brother- in-law to the victim’s mother.
The police said that the Tiza also threatened to harm the minor if she told anyone.
The offence is in violation of sections 398 and 284 of the Penal Code law of Benue 2004.
The case has been adjourned until August 28 for further mention.
