Court to Rule today on Emefiele’s Detention

Releated Post

Today, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, will learn his fate in the fundamental human rights suit he filed against the Department of State Services (DSS).
The embattled ex CBN Governor, was arrested and detained by the DSS on June 10, following President Bola Tinubu’s suspension and order for a probe of the CBN.
Emefiele’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN), filed the suit in the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, alleging a violation of his human rights. The suit also names the Attorney General of the Federation, the Director General of the DSS, and the DSS as respondents.
The respondents have filed preliminary objections challenging the court’s jurisdiction and calling for the case to be dismissed.
The DSS claimed that Emefiele’s detention was lawful based on an order from an FCT Chief Magistrates’ Court.
However, Emefiele’s lawyer in his argument stated that the suit has merit and should therefore be considered.
The judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, will rule today on the jurisdiction of the court and Emefiele’s prayers.
