The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecoms operators to ensure that their networks are secure against cyber criminals.
The directive comes after recent incidents in which fraudsters have taken advantage of vulnerabilities in the telecoms platforms to defraud consumers of their hard-earned cash.
Speaking at the Second Quarter Industry Consumer Advisory Forum, the Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, expressed concern about consumers losing money due to e-fraud, and stressed the need to build confidence in the digital economy.
He urged telecoms operators to use tools to secure their networks and protect personal data, warning that an unsecured network could put Nigerians at risk.
