His success at the polls was not by accident, it was a reward for hard work and dedication to a cause. It was heralded with electrifying ecstasy.
The jubilation that greeted his victory was unprecedented and the joy of his constituents knew no bounds. They were excited as they were triumphant. The person they had elected has been declared the Senator elect of the federal republic of Nigeria.
Their elation heightened when he was graciously issued with a certificate of return by the independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC). The certificate was euphorically celebrated by his constituents that one will assume he had won a world championship in a prized event.
Sen Laa or Mr Laa as he is fondly known is a political heavyweight and a household name in the politics of Kaduna State. His greatest assets are his humility, sobriety , patriotism, passion for whatever he endears himself in to and is endowed with abundance of patience. He is neither an introvert nor an extrovert but outspoken in matters of intellectual discuss or challenge.
The inauguration of the 10th Senate on the 13th of June 2023 though involving the whole 109 distinguished senators, his participation attracted his constituents who trooped-in in their numeric numbers to be part of the fun and fanfare. Aware of the limitations placed on the attendance at the event to only the senator and one other, they were undaunted. They were innumerable as they barricaded the temporary senate chambers chanting melodious songs and gyrating along the corridors, dressed in different attires assembled in one place having with them local musical instruments, drums, banners and flyers in celebratory mood
with pomp and pageantry.
The supporters who came for the event were not disappointed. After the inauguration they were hosted by Mr Laa at the Bamanga Tukur foundation and gardens at Wuse 2 Abuja. There was so much to eat, drink and make merry that one will have imagined it was in celebration of one of our revered festivities or better still the new yam festival aptly captured by Chinua Achebe in one of his famous novels things fall Apart. While some of them decided to return home after the event little did they know that they were about to miss the mother of all the events.
By 8pm of the same day all the roads led to Palme’ Dor gardens a resort at Garki immediately after Apo bridge Abuja.
It was a memorable event that will be relished in time to come. It assembled all the who is who in Kaduna Politics irrespective of party affiliation or partisanship. Highlights of the event includes musical performances and interludes, speeches by eminent figures present including the former Vice President of the federal Republic of Nigeria Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo GCON and photo opportunities with the Senator and distinguished guests present at the event. There was so much to eat and drink as course meals were enumerable.
It was an event that brought together warring factions, long lost associates and acquaintances and made the night one to remember. As all were gathered to honour and witness the ushering of Mr laa into the upper legislative chambers the prayer echoing in the mouth of many is ‘ may Mr laa succeed in the onerous and herculean tasks of law making and nation building, may Nigeria benefit from his wisdom, wealth of knowledge and experience in steering the ship of state to a safe berthing’
