It was a tensed atmosphere in Anambra State on Thursday as four gunmen believed to be DSS operatives tried to take away member-elect for Nnewi North constituency, Mr Onyekachukwu Ike.
The armed men arrived in three vehicles and grabbed the member-elect after he participated in a valedictory thanksgiving mass for the seventh Assembly.
Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs Esther Aneto and other senior staff expressed their displeasure at the fact that the suspected DSS operatives did not inform them or the Police personnel before attempting to whisk away their guest.
However, one of the suspected DSS operatives claimed that they had a court order to arrest the member-elect. It took the intervention of Speaker Uche Okafor and Deputy Governor Dr Onyeka Ibezim, who represented the Governor at the Valedictory session, before the member-elect was released.
