Active telephone lines has continued to decline, NewsSpecng has learnt.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reported that the total number of active mobile phone lines decreased from 226,161,713 in March to 223,663,521 in June.
Teledensity, which is the number of active telephone connections per 100 inhabitants, in Nigeria for month of June 2023, stood at 117.17%.
The same stood at 118.48% in March of the same year.
The drop in teledensity began in February of the same year, falling from 119.01% to 117.17% in June, with the number of active lines also declining from 227,179,946 to 226,161,713 over the period.
On the other hand, the NCC reports that internet subscriptions have continued to rise, with GSM technology leading the way.
In April 2023, the subscription rate with GSM technology increased from 157,551,104 to 158,231,544, while there was an increase from 156,989,223 to 157,667,708.
In terms of contributions to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the telecommunications industry had an impressive performance in Q1 2023.
Its contribution rose from 13.55% in Q4 2022 to 14.13% in Q1 2023.
