No fewer than nine aspirants for the post of Speakership in the coming 10th House of Representatives on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress met with Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
The meeting, according to a source, was at the instance of Gbajabiamila.
Those at the meeting include Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase; Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation Aliyu Mukthar Betara; Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi; Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu and Chairman, House Committee in Land Transport, Tajudeen Abbas.
Others include Chairman, House Committee on Disaster Preparedness, Abdulraheem Olawuyi; Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Sada Soli Jibia, Abubakar Makki Yalleman and Sani Jaji.
The meeting also had in attendance, Deputy House Leader, Peter Akpatason.
The Speaker, who announced the meeting on his Twitter handle @femigbaja
He was of the opinion that each of the nine aspirants at the meeting has the capacity to lead the House and build on the legacies of the 9th Assembly.
He said: ‘Yesterday (Thursday), I met with aspirants for the office of the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives in the coming 10th Assembly. All 9 aspirants I have known and worked with for many years and I have no doubt will do well in continuing and building on the legacy of the 9th Assembly”.
Though no much details of the meeting revealed as it was held in camera.
According to a source, the meeting is to ensure that the party works as a block so as not to jeopardise its chances come.June when the new Assembly is inaugurated.
