The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dauda Lawal as Zamfara State governor-elect. Lawal polled a total of 377,726 votes, to defeat Governor Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 311,976.
This result came as a shock to many and can be described as a major upset in the political sphere.
The incumbent, was one of the strongest APC governors in the North but shockingly, he was defeated by the PDP.
The PDP candidate was announced as the winner in Gusau, the state capital in the early hours of Tuesday.
