Former Governor of Enugu state and Senator representing Enugu East, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani has sent a message of congratulation to his rival Kelvin Chukwu over his victory in the Saturday’s Senatorial election.
He explained that “The result of the election is in tandem with the rave of the moment in the South East zone who have identified with Labour Party . A contrary result would have negated the trend .
“ I wish the Enugu East Senator -Elect a successful tenure in the upper legislative chamber”.
Senator Nnamani contested the Senatorial election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while Chukwu contested on the platform of Labour Party (LP).
Kelvin Chukwu is the brother of the late LP candidate, Chukwu who was murdered a few days to the Feb. 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The LP candidate polled 69,136 to beat Nnamani of the PDP, who scored 48, 701 votes.
Chimaroke Nnamani having lost his seat , officially quit his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Nnamani in a statement issued on Monday said he has formally withdrawn his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just as he expressed appreciation to his constituents for the unalloyed support over the years .
Nnamani said he has consulted with his associates and constituents alike and decided to quit the party as a result of irreconcilable differences with the national leadership of the party .
Recall that Nnamani was suspended for anti-party activities after he openly supported the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu against his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
He said he has moved on and hoped that his modest contributions to the development of his constituency will be the building blocks on which his successors can build on.
Senator Nnamani also thanked Nigerians especially the Ebeano political family and urged them to remain steadfast in the years ahead.
