Protesters ground Ibadan over naira scarcity

Releated Post

Residents of Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday  trooped out in their numbers in protest of the current cash crunch in the country.

Residents hit streets and roads to express displeasure over the continued difficulties in getting petrol and naira notes.

Transporters led the protests around the Eleyele/Ologuneru axis of the capital city.

Other part of the city disrupted include Gbopa, Ologuneru, Apete, Sango, Poly road, Mokola and Iwo Road axis.

The protesters blocked the Eleyele/Eruwa road, making movement impossible for residents.

The blockage of the road has created heavy traffic, which has badly affected interstate travellers using the express and adjourning areas.

Witnesses at the scenes said the transporters were obstructing the free flow of vehicular and pedestrian movements around the areas.

It was gathered that the transporters said they were protesting the non-availability of cash as well as the rejection of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes by passengers and some fueling stations.

A traveller, Ralph Bolaji told NewsSpecng that he has been on a spot at the Iwo axis of the road for three hours without any movement.

He explained that the security operatives including the South West security operative, Amotekun watch haplessly as residents take charge.

Efforts to get the reaction of Oyo Police Command were not fruitful as of the time of this report.
