A suspected armed robber at the weekend lost his wrist while trying to avoid police arrest in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State.
Also, Police operatives attached to the Badia division arrested five of the suspect’s alleged accomplices at Ajeromi Primary School, where they were said to have hibernated after attacking their victims.
Those arrested were Jamiu Dauda (aka Fogo, 22), Adebayo Monday (alias white, 24), Obinna Okafor (aka Omo-adugbo, 23), Lucky Olanayo (20) and Henry Akpan (22).
It was gathered that charms and the severed wrist were recovered by detectives about 8pm last Thursday.
The Nation also gathered that the suspect attempted to evade arrest after his 25-man gang members attacked traders under the Iganmu Bridge. Unfortunately, some of the victims severed his wrist while he fled being lynched.
A source said the hoodlums struck about 7:30pm and operated for about 30 minutes before the police were notified and arrived. He said the severed wrist was recovered as the police went after the suspects.
According to the source, Dauda, the alleged ringleader, had been on the police wanted list since his alleged involvement in the looting and burning of Orile Police Division during the ENDSARS violence of October 2020.
The source said: “We received a distress call about 7:30pm last Thursday that about 20 boys were attacking people with dangerous weapons. Immediately we mobilised and went after them. They succeeded in robbing some people before we got to the scene.
“We saw one Mohammed Sanni, a trader in electronics, who told us that the hoodlums took about 20 phones, money and other valuables. He also told us the direction the hoodlums went. While pursuing them, five of the suspects, led by Jamiu Dauda, a wanted suspect, were arrested.
“Unfortunately, one of the suspects was mobbed and his left hand was severed as he tried to escape. The severed hand was brought to the station and other suspects identified it as that of their member, Sodeeq (alias Sogbe).”
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects and they will be prosecuted after investigations.
