The socio-economic importance of Travel Tourism and Hospitality are job creation, income generation and poverty eradication, the Director General National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, (NIHOTOUR), Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa has said.
Kangiwa disclosed this at a skill acquisition and training program for youths and women in Pankshin, Kanke and Kanem Federal Constituency of Plateau State.
In an address at the opening ceremony of the training program, the Director General of NIHOTOUR, Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa stressed some of the socio-economic importance of Travel Tourism and Hospitality which are job creation, income generation and poverty eradication, noting that the training exercise is meant to offer the trainees the opportunity to be self and gainfully employed.
Kangiwa’s address which was read by the Coordinator and Head of the Makurdi Campus of the Institute, Mr. Shakunga, called on beneficiaries of the skill acquisition training to make judicious use of whatever they have been taught to be useful citizens to their immediate community in particular and the country at large.
Speaking at the occasion, the Member Representing Pankshin, Kanke and Kanem Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, said he was impressed with the training program which he hoped will impact positively on the people as well as bring development and progress to the constituency and Plateau State as a whole.
He said what the Nigerian people need now, especially the youths and the unemployed, is skilled acquisition that enable them to be self-employed instead of searching for white collar jobs that no longer exist.
Also addressing participants of the training program, the Acting Chairman of Pankshin, Kanke and Kanem Joint Traditional Council, Da Fwangbring Mishkom Mupun said the comfort and happiness of the subjects are always the concern of the traditional institution and so expressed his happiness over the training, saying it will provide gainful employment to the people and boost the economic activities of the area.
