Former Military Administrator of Rivers State, Brigadier-General Anthony Ukpo has died.
It was gathered that Ukpo, who hailed from Yala LGA in Cross River State, died on Monday morning after a prolonged illness.
Ukpo, 74, according to a family source died in the early hours of Monday after a brief illness.
Born July 16, 1947, the late General was Minister of Information and Culture, and then Governor of Rivers State, from August 1986 until July, 1988 during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Secretary of the Ogoja State Creation Committee which was chaired by Ukpo, Leonard Anyogu, confirmed the death.
Anyogu said, “I can confirm that the former Milad died this morning. He died in a hospital this morning. It is very sad. Cross River State has lost an asset.”
