The recent surrender of over 400 Boko Haram fighter is not an indication that peace and security is returning to the North East anytime soon.
Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) Monday launched a massive attack in Rann, headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
Many residents of the town according to gathering fled to Cameroon as a result of the attack.
Rann shares a border with Cameroon.
Heavily armed fighters were said to have stormed the town in the early hours of Monday.
The ISWAP fighters fled the town following a military reinforcement, a source said.
Details of the attack are still sketchy but they reportedly set many houses on fire and engaged troops in a fierce gun battle.
A resident said the insurgents allowed civilians to leave the town unharmed.
