An alleged drug peddler, Mrs. Nora Chinyere Nadi, was on Thursday brought before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The Italy-bound traveller who was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on one-count charge of attempting to export 2.55 kilogrammes of heroin to Rome, the Italian capital.
According to the NDLEA, Nadi was arrested on August 3, 2021, with 100 wraps of heroin and two parcels of the same substance at the departure hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers on a Qatar Airways flight to Florence, Italy.
Nadi who was arrested by operatives of the agency, was allegedly caught with the heroin neatly packed inside Petal Hair Relaxer containers.
Prosecution counsel Augustine Nwagwu said the alleged offence contravened and was punishable under Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, 2004.
Mrs. Nadi pleaded “not guilty”.
Nwagwu prayed for a trial date and applied that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service pending trial.
But Nadi’s counsel, Mrs. V. A. Ekwegh did not oppose the prosecution’s application for a trial date but prayed the judge to allow her to move the defendant’s bail application.
Justice Oweibo consented, following which the judge granted Nadi N5million bail with two sureties in the like sum, among other terms.
He remanded Nadi in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Services, Kirikiri, Lagos pending the perfection of her bail terms.
