Yoga can help build strong immunity against Covid-19 if practiced consistently, India High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhay Thakur said on Saturday .
Thakur who spoke at the 7th International Day of Yoga with the theme tagged ‘Yoga for wellness’ reflects the concerns for the good health and well being of people across the globe.
Explaining the power of Yoga, the envoy who quoted copiously India Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi sad, “yoga has many benefits for the body as well as the mind. Despite all the efforts and precautions, covid 19 may infect any person.
“However, a strong immune system can aid in the fight against it. Yoga can help build that immunity, for instance, through breathing exercises that strengthen the lungs. At the same time, across the world, millions of people have been forced to stay indoors for months. This has taken a toll on their mental health as well”.
Also, the minister of health, Dr. Ehanire Osagie who was represented by Hajiya Zainab Sadiq said there is a bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and India in the area of promoting traditional medicines as a traditional/herbal medicine .
He also said Nigeria is working towards providing health care services to people who strongly believe in orthodox medicine. He stressed the fact that nature is a natutal healer.
He also revealed that the country has established a full fledge department for herbal and traditional medicine .
This, the minister said would allow for local remedies for some kind of diseases and ailment in the society.
