The political crisis in Mali seems to be far from ending, as the country’s President, Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane, were reported to have resigned.
The report of their resignation according to the spokesperson of the military junta came during mediation efforts on Wednesday.
Baba Cisse, special advisor to junta boss Assimi Goita, however failed to say if they were forced to resign or if they did willingly.
The duo were arrested on Monday in an apparent second military coup in nine months.
Both tasked with steering the return to civilian rule after a coup last August, had been held since Monday and resigned “before the mediator”, said Baba Cisse, special advisor to junta boss Assimi Goita, adding that negotiations were under way for their release and the formation of a new government.
