Suspected hoodlums set court on fire in Ebonyi

The Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, was on Tuesday set on fire by suspected hoodlums.

The court library was affected while the security post was badly damaged.

Two security guards sustained injuries in the attack .

The hoodlums were said to have scaled the court perimeter fence before carrying out the attack, using petrol bomb to perpetrate the act.

The police has cordon off the court, as detachment of policemen with three patrol vehicles positioned at strategic places.

Efforts to gain access to the court premises failed, as the security guards said the Registrar instructed them not to allow non-staff in.

The State Police Spokesman, DSP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident, said the hoodlums came in a large number.

She, however, said fire fighters intervened and put out the fire.

“Hoodlums came in their large number and set a section of the court ablaze, but fire fighters promptly came and quenched the fire, “she said.

The attack has caused panic and forced the state operatives to be on alert.

There is currently a campaign of violence against government establishments in the South-East.
