 ….Chinese Ambassador Designate, IGP meet

Chinese Ambassador designate to NIgeria, Mr. Cui Jianchun Thursday met with Nigeria top police chief, Usman Baba to discuss the issue of insecurity and how China could be of help.

Jianchun said the meeting was about how to make people live without fear in the country.

Jianchun, who was responding to questions from newsmen, during the Seminar on Communist Party of China (CPC) new blueprint and China-Nigeria’s new journey in Abuja, said the essence of the meeting was to see how to create an atmosphere for people not to leave in fear.

He said further that China has learnt so much in its past and is willing to provide assistance to Nigeria.

The envoy said on the outcome of his meeting with the police IG, “The outcome of the meeting was to create an atmosphere for people not to live in fear, but the most important thing is how can we find a way?

“ In China, we have learnt our lessons, we have technology, we have specific cases. so we discussed how the two countries especially in the police sectors could have the specific initiatives in handling security issues and afterwards find a way in terms of equipment supply, technology training and how we can do things together.”

While appraising the past 50 years of China-Nigeria relations, the envoy said it is high time for both countries to prioritise areas of collaboration.

He said, “We have achieved a lot in the last 50 years but many things need to be done in the next 50 years. We need to prioritise areas using our 5 goals in politics, economy, military, security and the people. But how can we have the 5I’s: Infrastructure, ICT, Industry, Investment and Import and Export? infrastructure is of great importance to china. without infrastructure, everybody knows that we cannot move commodities.

“Secondly, ICT; since it is a technology and without technology, we cannot have a digital economy. I am thinking of doing a Nigeria global match project to enable people do business. so we think that there is opportunity in ICT to enable us to install, build technologies.

“We need the industry. we realised that there are more people here, we have to manufacture more, we need more machines, technologies. if we can produce more, we can export more which means value added industry is very important.

“The next is investment. We need more companies, people to invest here which create jobs and in return generate revenues.

“And the last is importation, which is the biggest market in china. In the future, importation should be the biggest market in Nigeria. China is ready to accept more products from nigeria. because if we export more, we could create more jobs for people and also lift them from poverty.”
